The Double Glazing and Conservatory Ombudsman Scheme (DGCOS) has been launched with the backing of the people's consumer champion, Nick Ross, to improve the industry's much-maligned reputation and help consumers make the right choice when choosing an installer with whom to place their order.

The former BBC Crimewatch and Watchdog presenter will be the ambassador of the Ombudsman scheme, which will provide protection for homeowners installing windows, doors and conservatories.

DGCOS is a scheme that consumers can rely on. There are lots of trade associations in the double glazing sector, but DGCOS actually has powerful mechanisms in place to robustly police members and ensure consumers get a fair deal.

In a first for consumer protection, The DGCOS Compensation Fund will pay out all bona fide claims to compensate homeowners where traders fail to live up to their promises and the Ombudsman has ruled in their favour.
